Realising the ANZAC Spirit

On April 25th we celebrate ANZAC day.

This has always been particularly significant in my family since we have a history of service.  My Grandfather served, my Great Uncle served and my father, Dr Noel Sproles served and is now a retired Lieutenant Colonel. My elder brother, Major James Sproles is currently serving with the Australian Defence Forces.

However….

It wasn’t until I attended the 50th Year Reunion of the Portsea Officer Cadet School that my Father had coordinated that I appreciated the strength of the union felt by these soldiers.

Their strength and silent knowing amongst them all of what had passed was only upstaged by the tenderness they showed each other.

This photo I took is a stolen moment of mateship that stands as strong today as it did when they were young men 50 years ago.
